From Tolon to Mycenae to Athens
Th, July 22, 2004:
Stopped at tomb, high entrance with high a cone-shaped ceiling. Drove to Museum of Mycenae (Treasure of Atreus Museum). Took pictures of almost every piece in there. Jars, jewelry, tools, gold masks, crown. Same antiquities as museum in Olympia. Then we went up the hill to the archeological site up the hill. Stones laid in a circle, broken houses, with remaining stones up to a meter high. Walked up the hill where you could see green hills all around. We drove to a Souvenir shop with tons of jars, statues, jewelry. Well-displayed. I took pictures of all of them. Bought a silver necklace for 67 Euros.
Drove and got to the Corinth Canal at 1. We were there for 45 minutes for lunch. Canal was built in 1984. It is 6.3 m long, 80 m. deep (depth of rock), depth of water= 8 m. Rock is cut straight down. You can see the layers. Limestone rock. Blue water like Lake in Canada.
Drove to Athens and got there around 3:30. It was the last day for the driver. Stayed in my room took a nap, and worked on the computer. Went to the internet café from 7 to 7:30, then walked to Plaka. Met Groups of my fellow traveler.
